Bob Riel

Bob Riel is a writer with the ability to meet diverse needs. Riel World Communications is built on the skills and experiences Bob acquired through work in newspaper journalism, corporate communications and cross-cultural consulting.

He is the author of the book Two Laps Around the World: Tales and Insights from a Life Sabbatical. He is also the North American travel columnist for Examiner.com and publishes the blog Travels in the Riel World.

Bob has considerable experience in writing about cross-cultural subjects for a business audience. He worked seven years as Manager of Editorial Services for Eaton Consulting Group (now Aperian Global), where he researched and wrote more than 70 country-specific manuals that were used in corporate trainings with such international clients as Dell, Sony, Bechtel, L.L. Bean and AT&T. More recently, as an editorial consultant, he has written materials for the company’s online Globesmart training tool. In 2002, he co-authored a cross-cultural chapter for a business book, Creative New Employee Orientation Programs.

Bob’s work experience includes four years as a corporate communications manager and as the principal development writer for Up with People, an international nonprofit organization. He produced a case statement for a five-year fundraising campaign and wrote and edited corporate newsletters, annual reports, press releases, brochures and other materials. He also wrote a case statement for the Catholic Archdiocese of Sioux Falls that received an award from the International Catholic Stewardship Conference.

Additionally, he has written articles for the Arizona Daily Star, Workforce Magazine, Relocation Journal and other publications. His writing career began with a two-year stint as a journalist for The Woonsocket Call newspaper in Rhode Island, where he authored hundreds of news and feature articles.

Along with his writing credentials, Bob has experience as a speaker, consultant and educator. He has given talks to community groups, conducted cross-cultural workshops for business executives, taught classes for The Princeton Review and EF Education, and worked as an Educational Program Manager at Up with People.

His professional skills are supported by considerable personal experience with the cultures of the world, as he has traveled to 45 countries on six continents and to 48 U.S. states.

Bob has a master’s degree in political science from Boston College. He currently lives in Arizona with his wife, Lisa, and their son, Brady.
